VOL. I — A PRACTICE IN BECOMING

The Method

How a
Touch match
actually happens.

Touch is a practice, not an algorithm. Every match is read, considered, and written by a human. Here is the entire process, in the order it unfolds.

01The Intake

i.

You tell us your story.

20 minutes. Confidential. Read only by our founder.

The intake is a written form, twenty minutes, in your own words. We ask about your cultural background and what cultural matching actually means to you. We ask about your family — what role they play in your life, what role you wish they played, what role you wish they did not. We ask about faith, language, gender, identity, and whether any of these are central to the work or quietly off-stage.

We ask about what you are bringing — grief, trauma, anxiety, burnout, a specific event, a long-running ache. We ask what has and has not worked in therapy before, in your own words, with no jargon required.

We ask about budget and insurance, because we will not match you with a therapist you cannot afford to keep seeing.

02The Match

ii.

We consider, by hand.

Within 72 hours. Written by our founder, personally.

Your intake is read by our founder, who has personally vetted every clinician on our roster. Within seventy-two hours, you receive one recommended therapist — not three, not a list — with a written note explaining why we paired you.

The note tells you what we noticed in your intake, what about your therapist's approach we think will meet it, and where they trained. It is signed.

This is not how matching works on other platforms. On other platforms, an algorithm runs a filter and returns a directory page. We do not believe that is matching. We believe that is sorting.

03The Meeting

iii.

You meet.

A free 15-minute call. No commitment, ever.

You book a free fifteen-minute introductory call directly with your matched therapist. This is not a session — it is a conversation, to see if the person sitting across from you on the screen is someone you can imagine sitting with for a year.

If the fit is right, you continue. Sessions are paid directly to your therapist, at their published rate. Touch does not take a cut of your sessions. Ever.

If the fit is not right, you tell us, and we match again. No questions. No charge. We expect this to happen sometimes. It does not mean we failed — it means matching is hard, and we want to get it right more than we want to be right the first time.

Matching is hard. We want to get it right more than we want to be right the first time.
A note we keep on the wall.

05What Touch is not

Touch is a private therapy practice. We are not a crisis service, we are not a medication management service, and we are not an emergency line. If you are in immediate danger, please call 911.

For free, 24/7, culturally safe crisis support, please call the Hope for Wellness Helpline at 1-855-242-3310 or Talk Suicide Canada at 1-833-456-4566.
